ShipIntel is a modularized software application for shipping professionals where you can access some basic functionality and invite in as many colleagues as you want for free. You can subscribe to the paid modules to expand the value of your subscription. Further, if you choose to upgrade, you and your team will also access the features in the mobile app.

In ShipIntel you can create unlimited numbers of sea routes for free from a vessel's position, or from port to port. All decided by you. If you would like to save, send, or have alternative routes, and in addition route several vessels to one port, you need to upgrade to the Sea route module.

Calculate your sea routes in ShipIntel and find the distance in nautical miles, lat long coordinates, speed, destination ETA, and carbon emissions.

How to create a sea route: From vessel position

1) To create a sea route from vessel position you need to choose the "Sea route" module from the left menu in map view.

2) Select the button "From vessel position" and type in your preferred vessel by name, IMO, or MMSI. Press search.

3) A list of vessels matching your search will be shown. Please select your vessel.

4) After choosing your vessel you will be asked to choose a destination. Fill in your preferred port for destionation.

Waypoints and ports

Add all the ports that you want and move the order of the ports by “clicking and dragging on the port“. You can also click and drag on any part of the route in the map view to create a new waypoint.

If you hover over a part of the route inside an ECA zone you will find more details about the vessel's fuel consumption.

5) The Sea route module will calculate the chosen route. The route will be visible on the map together with the route summary to the left.

Route summary

The route summary shows details of the route you have created. If you are routing from a vessel, and want to change its speed and consumption; click on the card. The changes you make are saved to your private vessel details by default.

6) Bellow the sea route details you will find some different route options:

Route options

In the Sea route module, you will be shown route options based on the vessel's position and destinations. You can select which sea route you prefer and enable the “show me available bunker ports along the route”. You will get information about the current voyage for the vessel based on live AIS data. Further, you can compare the current voyage with the voyage you have created. You will be shown the carbon emissions for the route you have created. Together with a breakdown of the carbon emissions inside and outside of ECA zones. You can select and change which fuel grade you want for the route. To finish up you will get a summary of the voyage you have created. Time spent in port is based on the historical port statistics for the type of vessel you are using, we also estimate whether the vessel is in ballast or in laden condition. We are using AIS for these estimates.

Use the "Options" menu to select the shortest route available, or to show bunker ports on the way:

Use the "Current voyage" to get updated information regarding the chosen vessel:

Use "Carbon emissions" to calculate total emissions for the selected vessel and route:

Use "Sea Route Details" to get an overview of the selected route:

7) Save the route by pressing the green button "Save route". Send the route to a colleague by pressing the "send button" to the right of the "save routes" button.

To be able to save the created sea route you would need to fill in a name:

Save and send

You have to upgrade to the paid version to save your sea route.
If you upgrade and save the sea routes, you and your team can send unlimited sea routes to your external partners even with a comment.

8) In the lower right corner of the map you will find the map card which contains a small summary of your selected sea route.

Map cards

In the Sea route module, we have created small Map cards functioning as a short summary. Say you have created a sea route from your vessel’s position to
Haldia and want to compare a sea route from your vessel’s position to San Martin, click on the duplicate icon on the left side of the card, and change the port.

Click on the card to highlight details about one of the chosen sea routes.

9) Your saved sea routes will be stored under the "Sea route" module as shown in the screenshot below:
