ShipIntel provides comprehensive historical AIS data, offering valuable insights into the vessel position history, port call history, past vessel routes and voyages, vessel movements, port activities, and maritime operations.

ShipIntel's historical AIS data dates back to 2019, collected from satellites, terrestrial sources, and dynamic AIS streams, processed with precision to deliver actionable maritime intelligence to any type of company involved in maritime business.

This guide will explain how to access and utilize historical AIS data in ShipIntel, ensuring you maximize the potential of this powerful tool.

Accessing Historical AIS Data from the Vessel Details Card

1) Navigating to the Vessel Details Card

  • To view historical AIS data, start by selecting the desired vessel from your list or search.

  • Click on the vessel's name to open the vessel details card.

2) Positional and Static AIS Reports

  • Once viewing a vessel card, the default view is the AIS information tab.

  • This tab provides two reports:

    1. Positional AIS Report: Includes the vessel's real-time location, speed course, true heading and where it departed anchor showing where the vessel was last seen departing the port's anchorage, along with the time and date for departure.

    2. Static AIS Report: Contains static information like vessel name, IMO number, dimensions, reported destination and estimated ETA.

3) Port Calls Tab

Click on the "Port Calls" tab to view the vessel's historical port visits. This tab displays a table with the vessel port call history, and detailed information with:

  • Ports visited

  • Port name and UN/LOCODE

  • Country and flag

  • Arrival: The vessel's time of arrival including anchorage duration.

  • Departure: The vessel's time of final departure from port

  • Anchor duration (if applicable)

  • Port duration: Time spent at berth or port vicinity

  • Arrival draft: Registered AIS draft at the time of arrival

  • Assumed port operation: Load/discharge based on arrival condition

Port Calls from Vessel Card in Map View

The Vessel Cards in Map View, also provide you with historical voyage information on the vessel's port calls.

1) Access the Vessel Card in Map View

  • Click on a preferred vessel on the map, use the search bar or click on "View in map" from the Vessel Details Card. From the card, you see the previous two ports.

2) Click on Port Calls from Vessel Card

Clicking on the Port Calls section opens up a list of all the vessels last ports, as well as the vessel's reported destination.

From the list you can see:

  • The port and the location

  • The vessel's operation at the port

  • Time spent at anchorage

  • Time spent mooring in the port

3) Click on a Port from the Port Calls list

Clicking on a port from the list in map view lets you see the actual historical AIS data and the vessel route for the given voyage, displayed on the map.


Viewing Historical Voyages and Routes

ShipIntel's historical AIS lets you see a vessel's past vessel movements and port operations.

To see the historical voyages displayed on the map, either:

  • Navigate to the map view, click on a vessel, click on Port Calls and choose from the list of historical voyages.

  • Open the vessel details card go to the "Port Calls" tab, and click on a voyage from the table.

Viewing Different Voyages

1) Switching Between Voyages

  • In the list view to the left, click on different voyages to see the corresponding routes on the map.

  • This feature allows you to compare different historical voyages, providing a comprehensive overview of the vessel's past movements.

2) Detailed Voyage Information

From the list view, you can see:

  • The port and its location

  • The vessel's operation at the port (e.g., loading, unloading, or at anchor)

  • Time spent at anchorage

  • Time spent mooring in the port

Viewing Historical AIS Data from the Vessel List

You can also see the AIS history from a vessel list.

1) Creating or Selecting a Vessel List

  • Create a new vessel list or select an existing one.

  • Navigate to the "Port Calls" tab within the vessel list to see all vessels and their port visit overviews.

2) Detailed Historical Port Visits

  • Hover over any port visit in the list to get more detailed information about that visit, including times, durations, and operations.

Utilizing Notifications for Historical Events

If you have set up notifications on vessels or ports, you will get notified on any vessel or port events. In the notification center, you can access and see the historical events, as well as getting live, real-time updates once a new event occurs.

  • Set up notifications for specific vessels or ports to receive updates on events.

  • Access the notification center to review historical events and activities.
