How to Add & View Weather Layers and Forecasts in ShipIntel

In this guide, we will explain how you can add a weather layer to your ShipIntel map.

In ShipIntel, you can enhance your maritime intelligence by adding weather layers to your map. This guide will explain how to add and view weather layers, providing you with real-time data and forecasts to aid in navigation and planning. All forecast data is updated daily by NOAA.

Adding Weather Layers to Your Map

1) Access the Map Page

Ensure your screen displays the map page in ShipIntel.

2) Open Weather Layers

Click on the "Cloud" icon in the upper right corner of your ShipIntel map. This will open the "Weather Layers" menu.

3) Select Your Preferred Weather Layer

Choose the desired weather layer by clicking on the button next to it. The button will turn green when selected. You can choose from:

  • Wind: Displays a wind particle map.

  • Waves: Shows a static waves height map.

  • Ocean currents: Provides an ocean currents particle map.

  • Precipitation: Displays a static precipitation map.

4) Apply and Close

Once you have selected your preferred map layer, close the menu by clicking on the "X" in the upper left corner of the menu or by clicking on the ShipIntel map behind the menu.

Note:

  • The satellite map style and the 3D Globe projection do not combine with any of the weather layers.

  • To remove or change the layers, reopen the "Styles and Layers" menu. Click the buttons next to the layers you wish to deactivate. The button will turn grey when a layer is unselected.


Access and View Forecast of the Selected Layer

1) Access the Weather Layer Forecast

After selecting a weather layer, a customized scale illustrating the measurements and colors for the various layers will be displayed in your ShipIntel map's upper-right corner.

2) Select the Forecast Time and Date

Choose the time and date of the forecasted weather by clicking on the dark blue circle and dragging it either to the right or left side. You can go 3-4 days back in time on the timeline and 7-8 days ahead.

Note:

  • You can combine a weather layer map with other map layers in ShipIntel, but you cannot add multiple weather layers simultaneously.

  • After selecting a weather layer, a customized scale illustrating the measurements and colors for the various layers will be displayed in your ShipIntel map's upper-right corner.

Combining Weather Layers with Other Map Features

ShipIntel allows you to enhance your map by combining weather layers with other map features. This helps you make informed decisions based on comprehensive data, improving your maritime intelligence, operational efficiency and decision.
