The Sea Route Calculator tool will give you the shortest sea route from port to port, or from vessel to port.

Route Calculator is an important part of voyage calculations. In ShipAtlas you can combine Sea Route Calculator with other information layers.

Apply layers and filters, such as Weather, different zones, Piracy map or Congestion layer to have a better understanding of the performance and to make even smarter decisions.

How to use Sea Route Calculator with other map layers

If you wish to avoid routing too large vessels through the canals and into ports they can't enter, or avoid bad weather regions or congested areas, use additional layers and filters.

Start can find them in the right menu as "Map styles and layers".

Here is the example of what you can do to make your voyage calculation better:

  • Add information layers such as daily updated piracy, ice and marine weather forecast to your route.

  • Access information on canal constrains (draft, LOA and beam). If your vessel is bigger, we will route her the shortest way around.

  • Add bunker ports and learn where you find bunkers available, bunker grades and prices.

  • Add SECA/ECA zones and find the carbon, SOX and NOX footprints for your route.

After choosing a layer, you can calculate the sea distance.

To create a route, go to the left menu and choose the Sea Route Calculator icon from there. Or just click on the vessel on the map, and you you need to build a route from.

Another example:

If your vessel is drifting for order, click on the vessel and add the possible load ports you may consider (in image below: Salvador and Bonny). After you have selected the ports, you can add weather layer and quickly find the ETA for your vessel in the different loading ports (Salvador and Richards Bay).

While you are using the sea route calculator, we will continue improving it with more advanced features and layers of information.
