View congestions in ports and canals
It will help you to access to real-time update for vessels waiting in the Suez or Panama canal divided into segments and sub-segments (updated in real-time).
Here is a short instruction on how to use Congestion Layer by ShipAtlas.
After recent situation in Suez (March 2021) many of our users asked us for the feature they urgently needed. This tool shows the number of vessels waiting on both sides of the Suez canal (and not only there).
Note, that this feature is only available on the web-based application, so please log in from your laptop.
How to view the vessels currently in congested areas
Turn on all vessel segments from the menu on your left side.
Turn on the "Congestion Layer" filter from the same menu as shown above, and you will find a list of locations on the left side.
Here you can find some of the most popular locations of vessel congestions, such as Suez, Panama Canal, Port Said and Great Bitter Lake.
Hover over the vessels or click on the vessels you want know more about.
If you click on the icon, you will be able to see the vessels currently in congested areas.
Expand a list to show the vessel count per segment for that area.
If you zoom in, you will also notice we have re-designed the vessels icons based on LOA and beam.

This tool shows the number of vessels waiting on both sides of the canals, and it is updated in real time.
This is how Panama congestion looks like:
Under each location you can see how many vessels are there, divided by segments (Dry bulk, LPG, etc).
