Are you working with a cargo in the market out from a specific port? Do you want to know what other vessels you are competing with for cargo? Would you like to find a list of vessels able to reach a certain port in a certain period of time? With our new tool - Position lists - you can access all this information and share it with your team (if you have any).

It is an easy, quick and unique solution for commercial planning in the shipping industry.

The information about vessels' position will be useful for many maritime professionals - shipowners who want to check on the competitors, cargo owners who need to find a vessel for their commodities, port authorities, shipbrokers, charterers, vessel inspections, and many others.

How to create Position Lists

If you use Maritime Optima as a web-based application, then you can start by choosing a "Position List" icon on the left menu:

Click on the blue button in the upper right corner - "Create a position list".

Let's say we need to find which vessels within a specific segment (Aframax tankers) are able to reach Pudong/Shanghai within specific laycan dates.

  1. Choose the laycan dates. We start with 18-20 September

  2. Choose a segment (dry cargo - tankers - LPG - LNG etc). We will continue with tankers.

  3. Choose a sub-segment - we go with Aframax.

  4. Choose a speed for estimating the vessels ETA to the port.

  5. If you are looking for tanker vessel max 5 years, you can use the Year built filter.

Even though the vessels in the list are those that can reach your port within chosen laycan dates, with the speed you have selected, they might be not available. Some vessels might be fixed for another cargo, or they may be on their way to load or discharge in another port etc. So now you have to start working with the position list, add info you know or your receive from your brokers.

On your left side you can see the same vessels listed one by one. If you hover over any vessel in your list, it will be highlighted and you will see its short description.

On the map you can see vessels available for the chosen laycan. They are marked with a red circle.

You can hide vessels in the list or add notes to vessels in the position list. Just hover over the vessel in the list on your left side and you will see three dots. Click on them to add a note or to hide the vessel.

So if you know the vessel is fixed for another cargo, or is not available for your cargo for some other reason, add a note and hide this vessel from your list.

A note might be: "CSK Valiant is fixed":

You will find all the notes you or your teammates have added here. Find more information about the notebook in article Digital notebook in Maritime Optima

If you upgrade to Standard Subscription, you can check vessels' directions, their ETA to a specific ports and find whether the vessels are loaded or not.

You can add this information to vessels in your position list. This feature plus your knowledge and info from the brokers, will help you to create a perfect position list for any of your cargoes.

You can upgrade to Standard Plan inside the product and find all the data on more than 75 000 vessels. In addition you will get:

  • Largest vessels seen in the ports measured in LOA, beam, dwt and draft

  • Information on vessels currently in any of the 5200 ports and recently departures

How to save the position list

If you want to continue working with your vessel Position List later, you can name and save it.

You can also add notes to the position list too, so you can get back to it later:

Check out the upper right corner - you will find Team Notes there.

You can always recompute a position list to update the vessels position and their ETA to the port you have selected.

To do so, just click on the blue button in the upper right corner.

It will never remove vessels from your list. The only way a vessel might disappear from your list, is to hide it manually.

How to find a position list you have created and saved

After you have saved your Position List, you can continue to work with it later. Just click on "Position lists" on the left menu, and you will see the page with all your saved position lists.

If you want to create Position Lists using Maritime Optima mobile application, follow the same steps.

Go to the left menu and choose Position Lists. Create a new one matching your criteria and save it. After you have saved the list, you will find it in the same folder. Choose different colors for different position lists, if you have several of them.
