ShipAtlas sea route calculator is one of a kind since you create route from ships live AIS position to any port of your choice. In this guide, we will show how you can do it.
Step 1:
There is now two ways to locate the sea route calculator. Firstly, you can search normally for a vessel, then click and select the calculator under the action button on the information card. Or secondly, you can click on "Sea route calculator" in the main menu on the left side (We will use the last for this example).
Step 2:
After selecting the sea route calculator, you will be confronted with two options; to route "from vessel" or "from port". Select "from vessel"
β
Step 3:
After clicking "from vessel" you will be shown this display. Click on the search bar and type in the name, IMO or MMSI for the vessel you want to create a route for.
Step 4:
You are now ready to create a route. Located right under the vessel name in the top left, type in the port you want to route to. After adding the port, the route will be generated automatically. If it doesn't load immediately, please wait a moment and it will appear.
You can add multiple ports within your route, change the start date and adjust the speed, if needed, to see how it affects the ETA and other voyage details. However, if you do not change the speed settings, ship's current speed will be taken into consideration for time calculations.
Details about the route will be displayed in the information card on the left side of the screen, and the generated route on the map will be shown in green. (You can also decide whether to avoid channels or sea ice, but these options will only show when your route goes through such an area)
You can adjust the route by clicking and dragging any point in the route to your desired position.
Congratulations! π
You now know how to create a sea route from a ship's position!
