The principle of using a weather layer map is pretty similar to the other map layers in ShipAtlas. All of our forecast data is updated daily by NOAA. In this guide read more about how to add weather layers and their purpose:

How to Add a Weather Layer to Your Map

Steps to take:

1) Make sure your screen shows the map page in ShipAtlas.

2) Click on the "Cloud" icon on the upper right corner of your ShipAtlas map.

The "Weather Layers" menu will appear on your screen.

3) Choose the map layer/ you prefer by clicking on the button next to it.

The button will turn blue when selected.

  • You can choose between: wind, waves, ocean currents, and precipitation.

4) Once you have clicked on your preferred map layer close the menu by clicking on the "X" in the left upper corner of the menu or by clicking on the ShipAtlas map behind the menu.

Note: The satellite map style and the 3D Globe projection do not combine with any of the weather layers.

If you want to remove or change the layers, open the "Styles and Layers" menu once again. To remove your layers, click on the buttons next to the same layers that are already added to your map. The button will turn grey when a layer is unselected.

How to View Forecast of the Selected Layer

After selecting a weather layer, a customized scale illustrating the measurements and colors for the various layers will be displayed on your ShipAtlas map's upper-right corner.

Note: The forecast is available for the wind, waves, and precipitation layers.

You choose the time and date of the forecasted weather by simply clicking on the dark blue circle and dragging it either to the right or left side. You can go 1-2 days back in time on the timeline and 7-8 days ahead. Pretty cool, right?

Note: You can combine a weather layer map with other map layers in ShipAtlas, but you can not add several weather layers simultaneously.
