How to Add and Manage Weather Layers – ShipAtlas Web

In this guide, you will learn how to add weather layers to your ShipAtlas map and use the forecast timeline.

Written by Line Omholt-Jensen

ShipAtlas offers daily updated weather forecast data powered by NOAA. Add weather layers directly to your map to stay informed on conditions at sea including wind, waves, ocean currents, and precipitation.

Add a Weather Layer

Step 1

Click the Cloud icon in the upper right corner of your map to open the weather menu.

⚠️ Note: Weather layers are not compatible with the Satellite map style or the 3D Globe projection.

Step 2

Select your preferred weather layer by clicking the toggle next to it. You can choose between:

  • Wind

  • Waves

  • Ocean currents

  • Precipitation

The toggle will turn blue to confirm your selection and the map will update to show the chosen layer.

⚠️ Note: You can combine a weather layer with other map layers, but you cannot enable multiple weather layers at the same time.

Step 3

Close the weather menu by clicking X in the upper left corner.

💡 Tip: To remove a weather layer, click the same toggle again. The toggle will turn gray. To switch to a different weather layer, simply click on your preferred option.

Use the Forecast Timeline

When you select the wind, waves, or precipitation layer, a forecast timeline will appear in the upper right corner of the map. Click and drag the blue circle left or right to change the date and time of the forecast.

  • Drag left to view up to 2 days back

  • Drag right to view up to 8 days forward

The date and time will update as you drag the timeline.
