The principle of using a weather layer map is pretty similar to the other map layers in ShipAtlas. All of our forecast data is updated daily by NOAA. In this guide read more about how to add weather layers and their purpose:
How to Add a Weather Layer
Step 1:
Ensure your screen is displaying the map page in ShipAtlas. Click on the cloud icon called "Weather". It's located in the upper-right corner of your map.
Note: The satellite map style and the 3D Globe projection do not combine with any of the weather layers.
Step 2:
Choose the weather layer you prefer by clicking on the button next to it. You can choose between wind, waves, ocean currents, and precipitation.
The button next to your chosen weather layer will confirm your selection by turning blue.
You will also notice that your ShipAtlas map changes in the background.
Note: You can combine a weather layer map with other map layers in ShipAtlas, but you can not add several weather layers simultaneously.
Step 3:
To deselect and remove a chosen weather layer from the map, click on the same weather layer one more time. Once it has been deselected, the button will lose its blue color.
If you want to change the weather layer of your map, simply click on your preferred other choice. After choosing your weather layer, close the weather layer menu by clicking on the "X" in the upper-left corner of the menu.
How to Use the Forecast Scale
If you select the wind, waves, or precipitation layer, a customized scale will be displayed in your ShipAtlas map's upper-right corner. This scale illustrates the ShipAtlas weather forecast feature.
To choose the time and date of the forecasted weather, click on the blue circle and drag it to the right or left. You can move the timeline 1-2 days back and 7-8 days forward. You will see the date of the scale change as you drag the circle.
