Whether you want to explore a specific port, track a vessel, or get a global overview of maritime traffic, knowing how to navigate the map is essential. This guide covers everything you need to get around.
Zoom In and Out
The lower right corner of the ShipAtlas map contains + and – buttons for zooming in and out. You can also zoom using your mouse or trackpad.
Using a mouse:
Scroll up to zoom in
Scroll down to zoom out
Using a touchpad:
Stretch two fingers apart to zoom in
Pinch two fingers together to zoom out
💡 Tip: On a Mac, hold two fingers on the trackpad and slide them back and forth to zoom in and out.
Using the map buttons:
Click + to zoom in
Click – to zoom out
Move Around the Map
Click and hold your mouse or touchpad, then drag in any direction to move the map. This allows you to explore any area of the world seamlessly.
Click on Vessels and Ports
Click on any vessel or port icon on the map to open its information card. The information card will show detailed information and available shortcuts.

Rotate the Map
Above the zoom buttons, you will find the Rotate button, indicated by two rotating arrows. Click it to select your preferred rotation speed.
While rotating, you can still zoom in and out and drag the map to adjust your view.
💡 Tip: Try the 3D Globe map projection with the rotation feature for an immersive experience. To enable it, click Styles & Layers and select Globe under Map Projection.
