Explore the Main Features in ShipAtlas

ShipAtlas is a vessel tracking app that helps you monitor ships, ports, and global maritime activity in real time. Using high-quality AIS data and interactive maps, you can explore vessel movements, analyze routes, and stay informed about shipping activity anywhere in the world.

Read more about our main features below.

Track vessels with live AIS data

ShipAtlas lets you view live AIS positions for vessels worldwide directly on the map.

You can:

  • Track vessels such as container ships, tankers, cruise ships, and bulk carriers.

  • See a vessel’s last and next port.

  • Monitor ship movements and global shipping activity.

AIS positions are regularly updated so you can follow vessel movements in near real time.

Calculate sea routes and arrival times

With the Sea Route Calculator, you can estimate routes and arrival times between ships and ports.

This feature allows you to:

  • Calculate the distance in nautical miles from a vessel’s AIS position to any port.

  • Estimate ETA, days at sea, and distance remaining.

  • Create routes between ports.

The Sea Route Calculator helps you better understand vessel voyages and potential arrival times.

View historical port calls and vessel tracks

ShipAtlas also provides access to historical AIS data.

You can view:

  • The vessel’s previous port calls

  • Historical vessel tracks

  • The vessel’s intended next port

Historical AIS data allows you to analyze where vessels have traded previously and where they are likely heading next.

Search for vessels and create vessel lists

The ShipAtlas search tool makes it easy to find specific ships.

You can search by:

  • Vessel name

  • IMO number

  • MMSI

You can also refine your search using filters such as:

  • Vessel type

  • LOA, beam, and draft

  • Year built

PREMIUM: Under the Premium plan, you can create vessel lists and follow selected ships directly on your map.

Explore ports, canals, and congestion

ShipAtlas also provides information about ports and maritime infrastructure.

You can:

  • View ships currently in port

  • Check canal restrictions

  • Explore port activity and congestion

This feature helps you understand traffic levels and operational conditions in different ports.

Build your own maritime map

ShipAtlas allows you to customize the map by adding different maritime data layers.

Available layers include:

  • Marine weather (updated daily)

  • Sea ice conditions

  • Piracy activity

  • ECA / SECA zones

  • Economic zones

  • Load line zones

  • Polar code areas

  • Wind farms

You can also switch between different map styles, including satellite view.

The maritime data layers help you create a personalized decision-making map for maritime analysis.

You are now ready to explore vessels, ports, and global shipping activity in ShipAtlas.
